What I do
As a journalist with more than 20 years’ experience covering the health, medical and social affairs fields, I contribute to a wide range of publications, including national newspapers and magazines, websites and other media.
I have a particular interest in the working of the NHS, which provides healthcare for 50 million people in England. It has always been a political issue, despite many critics wanting to take the ‘politics’ out of the health service. As it takes up so much of the UK’s spending (more than ₤110 billion in 2016-2017), and as it’s so important to society as whole, it’s only right that it should be subject to close scrutiny by the media, whatever shade of government is in power.
Advances in medicine and medical technology have also been huge in the last 20 years and I have a keen interest in writing on these aspects of healthcare, as well as how improving healthcare of the population is changing society.
I also write educational materials for health charities and educational bodies in the field, and I provide copywriting services for a wide range of clients, including PR companies.
